Where Help, the last menu on the bar
Help is the last menu in the top bar, on every page. It holds:
- Manual — this manual (the parts for administrators only for them); a client gets a shorter manual of their own.
- Videos — short walkthroughs, one to two minutes each, made on the example hotel and grouped by the job, Start here first: narrated, with captions (on by default) and a transcript, and Music on/off to keep only the voice (the choice is remembered in your browser). Each has its own page to share, and the manual's sections show the one that covers them, as do the How it works links on the pages (▶ Watch). A video about a module your firm has switched off is left out. A client sees the one made for clients. A new firm's home page offers the basics for its first month; × puts that away.
- Find a setting… — every setting and page you may open, found by the words people use for it (tax, logo, managers, markup). The search box at the top offers the same, and the filter above Settings' tabs shows the matches from every tab.
- Setting up (administrators) — the checklist a new portal starts with, twelve steps — logo, brand color and email sender, time zone, sales tax and currency, markup, item numbering, team, showing your principal, seeing the portal as your people do, payments, first project, retire the example. It checks itself off as each is done; the home page's Finish setting up card is put away for a week or dismissed, and this brings it back.
- Contact support — a note to the people who run the portal, with your address, the portal and the page you were on, so they can reply and know where to look. Clients and contractors see Contact followed by the firm's name instead, and their note goes to the firm.
- Suggest a feature — also under your name at the top right. One box: what would make this easier? It goes to the people who build PortSpace, with the kind of page you were on (never what was on it), and if it ships you get an alert saying so. For the firm's employees; clients and contractors write to the firm instead.
Getting around, the first video, follows a designer's day. Owners and administrators also see Getting around for principals right after it: the owner's Home, with the firm at a glance.
When a form is turned down
What you see when a form is not open to you, or its record has gone.
A form your role may not use, or one for something since removed, lands on a short page that says so — That is not open to you or That is no longer there — with a link back to where you were. Nothing was changed.
Viewing as someone else
Viewing as someone else, a form lands on a page saying nothing can be saved until you use Back to in the yellow bar.
